World leaders supported the development of a secret drug that was to stem the rise of youth aggression and global violence, but unknowingly rendered women incapable of producing male offspring. Horrified by the implications of such a dangerous interference in the orderly evolution of mankind, one genetic engineer desperately seeks to find a solution. However, her sudden death leaves responsibility in the hands of her daughter, who struggles to not only expose the evil plan, but also bring to light her mother’s scientifically based resolution.
Considering the advances in stem cell research and the world’s increased acceptance of laboratory experiments that alter the very essence of the genetic chain, this novella might be read less as a work of futuristic science fiction than a chilling account of a scheme that becomes increasingly plausible, and increasingly nefarious. Alexander adds to the tension by creating a story narrated by a young girl who, with unsettling logic, and a voice driven by curiosity, anger and fear, discovers the truth about her mother’s work…and her mother’s death.

About the Author
Cornelia Alexander is a Mississippi native who earned a BA in History and Political Science and a MA in Public Administration. Having long worked in the public sector, Alexander assisted in the writing of several technical reports that were published and made available to local governments. The Foreseeable Future is her first attempt at fiction, allowing her to merge her analytical side with creativity and imagination. Alexander currently lives in Northfield, Ohio.
